A brief extract.

I thought I would take some time out from my normal blogging and throw up time to time some random extracts of the book I am writing. Note the extracts are not polished and may need editing. This is not a concern at the moment as the final draft will undergo the editorial process.

He was content to listen into their conversation and only spoke when directly asked a question and was glad that the conversation moved away from being about him. He had to laugh when they shared the story how one of them got hold of a scary mask and had knocked on the caravan door and his wife opened it with an armful of pots and pans. She had screamed so loud and shut the door on him. Everyone else had been in on the joke and laughed so loud. His wife joined in at that point saying. “I fixed him up good though, I locked him out of the van for the night and he had to go and sleep in the car.”

Tim made his apologies to them and said he was tired and needed to get some sleep. He had been watching the kids interact with their parents. One of the girls had been combing and platting her mums hair and then joked with her dad about it being his turn to put his hair in a ponytail as she ran her fingers through his balding head. Watching them made him feel alone. Very alone. And for the first time he started to doubt himself and wondered  if he was doing the right thing.
