A friend recently posted on his blog the following poem.
The Lord God says:
‘Share your bread
with the hungry,
bring the homeless poor
into your house,
cover the naked.’
Dear Lord God,
We have got
new carpets,
so this will
not be possible.
It’s a huge indictment against the general mentality and practice of Christian faith. On a personal basis we are truly enriched in opening our home for any to come and enjoy a meal with us and share our possessions. It’s only because of limited showering / toileting facilities that we haven’t opened our home for any who need a bed on a regular basis.
We cannot talk about advancing the kingdom of heaven, if we don’t personally put into practice the beatitudes. Tough call I know…but truly..think about it.
If you like that poem, google “Steve Turner” for more excellent poems. His poem, Creed, is marvelous.
