I’m preparing a sermon for Sunday night’s series on Being a Fair Dinkum Christian. The passage is 1 John 3:16-24 and I’m thinking of titling it…The Rubber Must Hit The Road or Long Arms & Shallow Pockets.
John makes it clear that salvation manifests good works in our lives. Doctrine and theology are dangerous things to hold to, if it doesn’t spur us on to actions of love. There is a deep tension within the salvation journey. Firstly we are not saved because of what we do…but we prove that Christ lives within us, because of what we do….for the the Spirit of God will work in us, through us and over us, if indeed he dwells within us.
John says, what good is your faith, if you see a family member in need, have the means and ignore their plight.
