Last night my wife and I heard a couple of cracks and the house trembled. I thought we may have had experienced a tremor of some kind in the local area. But I think we experienced the house dropping. This morning when I went to go to Church and locked the front door, I noticed the door jamb / frame had moved out of the brick work, suggesting perhaps that the house had dropped.
I’m hoping that one or more of my readers will have some building / renovating experience and if so, some advice would be welcomed.
See the photos here. As you can see the externals have moved, while the inside walls, frame, jamb hasn’t. The window (no pic) to the left of the door has also moved a bit.
I scrambled under the house and took a couple of pics, it appears the piers have compressed a little, but it doesn’t look overly savage.
Questions to ask. Can I just jack the two supporting beams up and insert a wedge under them to raise the floor / wall the amount it has dropped? If so can I use a couple of light truck / 4wd bottle jacks to do so?
I’m also hoping that I am able to draw the door jamb in so that I don’t have to take it out in the process.
