What is the big picture.

I’m preaching on Romans 13 tonight. I won’t give away the gist of the sermon as yet – but will post more about it tomorrow.

However I do want to talk about how we look at Scripture. I have heard some say that verse by verse, precept by precept teaching is the best. However – I have come to believe that this is terribly wrong and leads to false witness of what the Scripture is really saying.

I believe we need to stand back and read the books and passages as a whole and work out the big idea and then and only then can we work out the meaning of the scriptures within the context of that big idea. Romans 13 is one such chapter.

I will fill you in more later …or you can come and hear what I have to say at 6pm tonight.

Couldn’t agree more. Otherwise you’re basically pulling everything out of context.

🙂 Btw Brian. How did the conference go?

        Hi Craig,

Sorry for the delay in responding. The conference is in July – not too late to register if you want to come. Or anyone else you know who may be interested.

I really enjoy reading your thoughts in your blog. Very thought provoking.
