Another twist to the Queensland Disaster Levy….and funding issues…

Queensland is the only state in Australia not to carry Infrastructure insurance in the event of a disaster. It appears that a deal was struck with the Federal Government some time ago where it would pick up 75% of the cost of repairs to any catastrophe. The Qld government has declined offers from market insurers in regards to insuring the state; saying it was not value for money and would save the state a few million dollars each year…

Considering the States run on tax monies and that the Australian Government runs on tax money…. and the cost of repairs is now amounting to billions; in reality what is a few million in insurance cover…

Anna Bligh is to be commended for her compassionate and strong leadership during the recent floods and the current cyclone disaster. However a strong enquiry truly needs to take place as part of the recovery process; to ensure that tax payers are truly having their monies spent wisely…
