It’s Australia Day…I’m proud to be an Aussie.

Today is supposed to be a right royal stinker. The mercury is foretold to hit around the 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of NSW and beyond. While I am not looking forward to the heat… I love my sunburnt and flooded country.

We are a land of larrikins. We tend to not take ourselves seriously… nor anyone else for that matter. Yet despite this larrikinism we are also people who pride ourselves for a can do spirit. We pride ourselves in that we have deep pockets and even longer arms to help a fellow Australian in need. ..yet at the same time we rarely feel comfortable about receiving help ourselves…   our mantra being… She will be right mate

Right across this nation there are heroes on every corner. They are the  mums and dads doing their best to raise their families. They are the business owners trying to make an honest living. They are those who work in the public and private sector; hospitals, security, police and emergency services; there are those who volunteer and give up much of their time to help others.

I am proud to be an Aussie; dead set true that is. While you might think I’m a kangaroo short in the top paddock or a tinnie short of a six pack; I intend to partake in an Aussie tradition of having a mystery bag with some dead horse and a snag or two.

And even though I am such a bad singer the shower turns its self off and my boys say that aeroplanes fall out of the sky..I intend to stand proud and sing

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history’s page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We’ll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who’ve come across the seas
We’ve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

And I think I will also blurt out the other stanza that though not official; makes for a great addition..

With Christ our head and cornerstone,

We’ll build our Nation’s might.

Whose way and truth and light alone

Can guide our path aright.

Our lives, a sacrifice of love

Reflect our Master’s care.

With faces turned to heaven above

Advance Australia fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing

Advance Australia fair!
