The ultimate church mission / purpose statement challenge…..

I made the following comment on Josh Dowton’s blog about lamenting;

The power of lament means we don’t have to have the answers and it gives us freedom to just roll up our sleeves and help those who need help…

Josh replied;

…your last point is especially profound. Oh how I’d love to see more churches encapsulate that idea in their purpose statements and activities…

This led me to thinking about mission, value and purpose statements within the church setting and whether or not they actually do serve a purpose for how our churches / congregations do serve and minister within the community.

What do you think are the essentials to have within a church mission / purpose / value statement…that is if you think the church should actually have one…
