Bonhoeffer; Prayer that overcomes.

Extract from daily devotional Jan 25…

…A Christian community either lives by the intercessory prayers of its members for one another or the community will be destroyed. I can no longer condemn or hate other Christians for whom I pray, no matter how much trouble they cause me. In intercessory prayer the face that may have been strange and intolerable to me is transformed into the face of one for whom Christ died, the face of a pardoned sinner…intercessory prayer is the purifying bath into which the individual and community must enter into every day.

Therefore church is to be a collective community in which we truly pray for each other and in doing so truly share in each others burdens, weaknesses and sins with the full knowledge that we are accepted and purified in love by the one we pray to. This also then has to be the foundation in which the church  prays for and minister’s to the society and greater community in which we live
